“Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.” James 5:13
Prayer is all about communicating with God. It is asking him for guidance, forgiveness, help, comfort, and wisdom. Prayer is also about praising God for all the good He has done in your life. Thanking Him for the blessings He gives you is just as important as asking for those blessings.
It is a time when you can have an intimate conversation, whether it be quiet or out loud, with our Almighty Father who loves us and wants what it best for us. Prayers can be short or long, and they don’t have to be uniform every time.
What if you’re reading this saying, “I don’t know how to pray”? There’s good news! If you can have a conversation with a friend, then you can have a conversation with God! But if you need a little more help, just think of A.C.T.S.:
Adoration- Praising God and honoring him for who He is
“And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, the whole earth is full of His Glory!” Isaiah 6:3
Confession: Telling God about your sins
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
Thanksgiving: Being grateful for the world around you and what God has done
“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1
Supplication: Prayer requests for yourself and others
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6
Talking to God with an honest an open heart is the core fundamental of prayer. This is just a simple thing to get started, but of course there are many other ways to pray.
Would you also consider keeping Eve Center in your prayers? Here are some specific things to pray for:
- The staff and volunteers who give selflessly to help the women in the program
- Future volunteers who are feeling the call to become a peer counselor
- All clients and their situations
- Future clients who need our services
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” 1 John 5:14
