About Us

HISTORY

Towards summer’s end in 2002, Cinny faced a decision for her future. With one year left to complete her master’s degree for counseling, which path should she take upon completion? Should she hang out a shingle for private practice, join an existing practice or start a new venture? Cinny was profoundly aware that the varied walks of women’s lives were worth hearing. Many women could help other women with similar concerns but not everyone would ever, or should ever, be a credentialed therapist or social worker. There had to be a way to train women to help each other. As a believer in God, she prayed for guidance.

Within two weeks, the American Association of Christian Counselors news-magazine arrived. In it was an article about the Center for Women’s Ministries, Inc. Here was a model for peer counseling worth looking into.

Cinny traveled to Bloomington Indiana March of 2003 and completed the Center Director training. The materials presented were excellent, with depth and insight matching a paraprofessional level of education similar to portions of the program she was completing for her masters degree.

September 1st, 2003 she ‘declared’ as the founding day for the Eve Center, the Cincinnati branch of the Center for Women’s Ministries, Inc. She had a laptop computer, a cell phone and several notebooks of materials, no volunteers and no office yet.  Within two months she received the two sites used to this day. The Silverton/Kenwood site opened its doors in June 2004 and is housed in a suite of rooms at the Fellowship of Jesus Christ Church. The second site opened March 2005 and is provided by Pregnancy Center West, Inc. in Price Hill. Both locations are provided rent free and utility free.

An Advisory Team, the local board of directors, formed fall of 2003. The first class of trained peer support volunteers began seeing clients for peer counseling end of June, 2004. We have been asked to open sites in Middletown, Northern Kentucky, and East Hamilton or West Clermont counties. Much has been accomplished is a short time. Please see the FACT SHEET. This will provide the current statistics and bulleted information.

MISSION STATEMENT
Eve Center mission statement: Provide free, faith based peer counseling by women to women age 13 and above seeking to regain their mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Center for Women’s Ministries, Inc. national mission statement: To equip volunteer staff across the world by prayer support, consultation services and resource materials so they may establish and sustain centers to provide crisis intervention with a spiritual emphasis and improve the quality of life for hurting women.

ST writes:
“Eve Center is a place where God led me to be healed and loved. It’s filled with wonderful, caring and safe women who understand me better than I understand myself at times. It’s a place to learn about yourself, the truth of God and how I can fit in on God’s team.”

CENTER FOR WOMEN'S MINISTRIES, INC.

Eve Center is a branch of the Center for Women’s Ministries, Inc founded in 1989.  The national office is in Bloomington, Indiana. It grew from the Holy Spirit-led conviction that although there are many social service agencies available, the element lacing in emotional healing is a spiritual emphasis.

“We’ve been where you are.”

Our national motto says it well. Each of us has learned many life lessons. We have a wealth of information and experience to share. We have been hurt, often beyond repair, or so we thought. Because of the grace of God and the support of others, our lives have been changed. Now it is time to walk with other women who have “been where we were.”

Eve Center is the Cincinnati branch of the Center for Women’s Ministries, Inc. To find out more about our national umbrella organization, where other centers are located around the world, or about beginning a center in your area, please go to www.centerforwomensministries.org, email inatlcwm@centerforwomensministries.org   or telephone 812.333.1555.

LIMITATION OF SERVICES

Our “volunteer peer counselors” are not professionals and should not be a substitute for professional psychological, psychiatric or medical care. They are trained volunteers here to share with and support you.

The Eve Center is strictly a volunteer organization and is not equipped to provide primary care for women exhibiting active mental illness although many of our clients are in a healing and stabilized position and therefore we are glad to be a part of her support system. The Eve Center cannot be her primary point of service.

The Eve Center is strictly a volunteer organization and is not equipped to provide primary care for women exhibiting active, regular use of drugs and alcohol. Our clients may struggle with drugs and alcohol but are in a healing and stabilized position and therefore we are glad to be a part of her support system. The Eve Center cannot be her only point of service for alcohol and drug dependence and/or addiction.

We also are not trained to assist children and therefore it is usually inappropriate to see a child below the age of 13 years.

While a wide range of education and experience is represented throughout the volunteers, all are simply that at the Eve Center, volunteers.

WTS writes:
“Eve Center provides a safe place for women ages 13 and above to come to get encouragement on a spiritual, biblical basis. Though the staff is not professional, their contribution is one of a para-professional. They come along side of other women to walk her through some of life’s rough spots, so that she can stand strengthened and independent. We walk with them “through the valley” so they may again enter into the sunshine.”
