Christmas can be a time of joy, happiness, tradition, and family. It’s a festive time of year spent with people you love celebrating. Bright lights, gifts, carols, trees, hot chocolate, and mistletoe bring about all the warm feelings. Right?

For some Christmas can also be a time of depression, feeling overwhelmed, alone, and sadness. It is a time of year that reminds you of what you don’t have. Maybe it’s the loss of a loved one, relationship, or job. Maybe its lack of money, family, and friends.

Whatever it is, for some people it is not the most wonderful time of the year. It is a time of isolation and hopelessness.

No matter what the reason is for your sorrow, God is with you in this season.

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”) Matthew 1:23

The whole reason for this time of year is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus. One of the many wonderful names He is given is Immanuel, which literally translates to God with us.

This is not a coincidence!!!!

There were many names for Jesus (Lamb of God, Deliverer, Redeemer) but none more personal than Immanuel. It is the only know that states God is with us.

GOD IS WITH YOU! He is with you when you can’t pay the bills and buy your child an expensive gift. He is with you when you set one less place setting at the dinner table because you lost someone this past year. He is with you when you get the call that your family won’t be coming to town for Christmas. He is with you even when you think He isn’t.

Take comfort in knowing you are not alone this holiday season. Seek God when you are feeling low and allow Him to lift your spirits. Let Him light your Christmas with love, peace, and joy.

“O come, Thou Day-Spring
Come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death’s dark shadows put to flight
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, o Israel”
